Aledo improves to 4-0 in district

BURLESON - Aledo’s JoJo Earle proved tough to stop all night as the junior scored four touchdowns in a 57-21 victory Friday over the Burleson Elks at Burleson ISD Stadium. Earle, who finished with 233 combined yards of offense, scored three rushing touchdowns and caught a pass for a score. Earle finished with 76 yards rushing on 11 carries and caught six passes for 157 yards as No. 1 Aledo tallied 598 yards of offense on 67 plays to improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in district play. Burleson suffered its second consecutive district loss to fall to 3-2 in district and 5-2 overall. The Elks battled the top-ranked Bearcats tight in the first half, but the defending Class 5A DII state champs outscored the Elks 28-7 in the second half. DeMarco Roberts put the Bearcats up 36-14 on a 39-yard third-quarter run. Earle followed that up with a two-yard scoring run and a 34-yard touchdown catch. Jeremiah James finished up the Bearcats' scoring with a 14-yard run. Burleson opened the game by rolling down the field and scoring in nine plays. Caleb Lewis capped the drive with a three-yard run for a 7-0 lead. Aledo countered with a one-yard run by Jeremiah James that tied the game at 7. The teams continued to trade scores as Earle scored on a four-yard run to put Aledo up 14-7 before Burleson tied things up at 14-all on a 14-yard pass from Blake Myers to Luke Peterson. Aledo finished out the first half strong by scoring the final 15 points for a 29-14 lead. The Bearcats took a 22-14 lead on a 20-yard scoring toss from Jake Bishop to Money Parks. With 32 seconds to play in the second quarter, Earle scored from six yards out. Myers completed 13-of-23 passes for 196 yards while Peterson nabbed six passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Myers was also the Elks' top ball carrier with 13 carries for 136 yards. In week 8, the Elks play at Everman while the Bearcats host Cleburne.
