Varsity Tennis to send 8 to Regional Tournament
The tennis team competed in the 5A District tournament held at TCU on March 28-29. After competitive match play in Abilene last weekend, the Bearcats dominated early matches and eliminated many teams. At the conclusion of play on Tuesday, Aledo had players slated to compete in every final match, and one match for third. In each final match, Aledo’s opponent was Wichita Falls Rider.
Scott Mason and Bryanna Orr defeated Rider 6-4, 6-2, making them District Champions in Mixed Doubles.
After defeating the first Rider team on Tuesday, Hogan Posey and Craig Mason defeated the second Rider team 6-3, 6-4 in the final match, making them District Champions in Boys Doubles.
Benjamin Farmer competed in Boys Singles, but lost the final 3-6, 3-6. He retained second place, as he had already defeated the third place finisher. Kenley Germany competed in Girls Singles and also lost the final match, 5-7, 1-6. She finished in second place.
Girls Doubles pair Paige Federman and Elli Kate Bussmeir lost their final match, 0-6, 2-6. This loss necessitated a playback match with Northwest, which they won 6-1, 6-0. They finished in second place.
Eleanor Jack competed in Girls Singles and played Azle on Wednesday for third place. A close loss led to a fourth place finish.
The top two teams in each division from the District Tournament advance to Regional competition. All eight Bearcats who entered the finals qualified to advance. The Regional tournament will be held in Lubbock on April 10-11.
